(FRENCH TEXT BELOW) One of the most significant milestones of my artistic career has been the Artist Residency I did in Italy during the summer of 2009. After planning the project over a few years, I travelled and worked in Italy for two months. I was juried into the program of the School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture, which was based in Montecastello Di Vibio, in Umbria. I first travelled for three weeks with my two children and husband to Venice, Florence and Rome. I wanted to take in as much as possible from Italy's rich culture and art history. Then I moved to Umbria to attend the Artist Residency. I had my own studio space to work on my projects and experimented with plein-air painting; I was free to join from time to time various classes led by professors and accomplished artists. I benefited from mentoring and peers reviews, attended lectures on art history every night, and we managed to have a weekly expedition , including Assisi, Perugia, Orvietto and Florence. The food was excellent as well, thanks to the local cuisine. In short, it was bliss! In the end, I brought back home more than sixty paintings, drawings, studies. I felt that I had accomplished so much. More importantly, I came back energized, inspired, with a renewed confidence in my artistic journey.

(FRANÇAIS) Une des expériences marquantes de mon parcours artistique a été sans conteste la résidence d’artiste réalisée en Italie à l’été 2009, sous l’égide de l’International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture. Ce projet planifié de longue haleine m’a d’abord permis de voyager avec mon époux et nos deux enfants, à Venise, Florence et Rome pendant trois semaines. Je désirais découvrir les richesses culturelles et artistique de l’Italie, à un rythme humain, avant de participer à la résidence . J’ai ensuite joint le programme établit à Montecastello di Vibio, en Ombrie. Durant six semaines, j’ai pu me consacrer à un travail autonome dans mon propre atelier et en plein-air, et profiter à plein de conférences quotidiennes avec des artistes invités, d’expéditions culturelles hebdomadaires à Assise, Perugia, Orvietto ou Florence, sans oublier de précieuses conversations et rétroaction de pairs et mentors. Tout a contribué à approfondir ma pratique artistique. Je suis revenue au pays avec plus d’une soixantaine d’études, peintures et croquis. J’ai aussi ramené dans mes bagages le sentiment que j'avais franchi un cap majeur pour la suite des choses, munie d’une conviction profonde en ma vocation artistique.
